The world is on the brink of chaos, China is the tinderbox and you and your squad are the inadvertent spark that could ignite a global conflict. This is Battlefield 4. As Sergeant Daniel Recker, you play as a member of an elite group of unlikely heroes known as Tombstone squad, navigating the turmoil around you as you fight to save the final hope for peace.

In Battlefield 4, you take on the role of Sergeant Daniel Recker, member of an elite group of soldiers known as Tombstone squad. While on a mission to collect intelligence from a defecting Russian General in Baku, Azerbaijan, your squad is discovered and you must fight your way through waves of Russian troops in order to escape. Upon getting back to the USS Valkyrie, a Wasp class carrier, the intelligence you’ve retrieved confirms previous suspicions. The Chinese Admiral Chang is planning a coup in China, and if this happens, the Russians would back him up

With this intel secure, the USS Valkyrie sets a course for Shanghai. You and Tombstone squad are sent on a covert mission into the city to extract a group of VIP’s. China is in uproar after the U.S. has been implicated in the assassination of Jin Jié, the future leader and voice for peace in China. Admiral Chang has canceled elections and martial law has been declared. As U.S. and Russian naval forces position themselves off the coast of China, and the situation quickly escalates into a stare down akin to a tinderbox waiting for a spark.

In Shanghai, protestors clash with police as the streets are filled with chaos and turmoil. Tombstone manages to find the VIP’s, among them a CIA field operative known as Laszlo W. Kovic. With him is a mysterious individual that the Chinese military has been franticly searching for. Together with Kovic you fight your way out of Shanghai and back to the Valkyrie as countless civilians flee the city, many of which are brought aboard the Valkyrie as refugees. With communications dead, the Valkyrie sets course for Singapore to rendezvous with the USS Titan and the 7th US carrier group at their last known position. As you reach Singapore you are shocked to find a horrific scene of fire and mayhem. The flagship is sunk and its fleet is eradicated, and from this point on nothing is certain.

New Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 Screenshots Come Out of Comic Con 19th July 2013

Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 is MercurySteam’s last installment of the famed Castlevania series, but judging by the beautiful screenshots released out of Comic Con they aren’t phoning this one in.

Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2, much like its predecessor, is an open-world game. However, this time around there will be no load times and features a free camera.

Look for Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 to hit shelves for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year.

SDCC 13: No Robin in Batman: Arkham Origins (Batgirl… Maybe) 19th July 2013

During their panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, Warner Bros. Montreal showed off some new content and revealed some tidbits related to their upcoming blockbuster, Batman: Arkham Origins. The story of the game will delve into the dark knight’s second year on the job, and it will thus preclude them from including Robin. The boy wonder was last seen in a minor supporting role in 2011′s Batman: Arkham City. The developers were more ambiguous in regards to Batgirl’s potential involvement in the game (a move that would make little sense since Dick Grayson’s Robin pre-dates Batgirl by quite some time).

Batman: Arkham Origins is being developed by Warner Bros. Montreal and will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on October 25th, 2013. A Vita version of the game,Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate, is also in development by Armature Studio and will be released on the same day.

New Strider Title Officially Announced, Being Developed By Double Helix 19th July 2013

Capcom has just unveiled at Comic-Con that a new Strider game is under development and has unveiled some new details about it. This new Strider game is developed by Double Helix and will be a 2.5D Metroidvania/Shadow Complex style title. Strider will feature an upgrade system, a big interconnected map, and as you may have guessed will be a side scroller.

Capcom showcased a trailer for it during Comic-Con, so hopefully the Japanese company will release it – via its YouTube channel – sooner than later.

We’ve been aware of this Strider game for a while. Back in March, we informed you about some Steam Achievements that were leaked for a number of games. Among those games was Strider. Naturally, a lot of people wondered what that could mean, and now we know.

Capcom has also revealed that this new Strider game will be coming on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and Wii U in early 2014.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Will Feature a “Handful” of Modern Missions 19th July 2013

The Assassin’s Creed official Twitter account is currently doing a live Q&A and we got a chance to ask a few questions about the game, and also peeked in on a few other questions asked by community members.

The first question we asked about the was about the modern side of things. Assassin’s Creed 3 featured a few mandatory modern missions that could not be skipped. While some people enjoy these missions, quite a few would rather not be having to switch from time period to time period. Thankfully, according to the Lead Writer of Black Flag, Darby McDevitt, the game will only feature a “handful” of modern missions.

Another user asked about how much of the game would take place on land vs sea settings. McDevitt says that about 60% of the game will take place on land, featuring all kinds of different locations like cities, jungles, plantations and of course, as we’ve seen from the trailers released, different types of Mayan ruins and so on.

A new detail learned about Edward is that he’s a married man, but “separated” from his wife. McDevitt doesn’t say whether or not Edward is divorced from his wife or just distant, hopefully the game delves more into his personal life than the short introduction of Connor and his family. McDevitt does state that Edward is more like Ezio in character, but not as flirtatious as he is a married man.

Other questions were asked about the game, but more or less details that we’ve already learned or heard about. One final question that may peak your interest is that the developers have included sniper enemies in the game and were added in to promote more forms of stealth.

PS4 digital library accessible on any system 11th July 2013

The PlayStation 4 will allow users to sign into their PlayStation Network account and access their complete digital library on any system, Sony engineer Neil Brown said today at Develop.

"You can visit your friend's house you can log into your account and play any game from your digital library, which is good," Brown said, as reported by PlayStation Magazine U.K..

Game downloads at a friend's house won't take all day, Brown explained. By leveraging the PS4's "Play As You Download" feature, gamers can play "at least the first section" of a game right away, while the rest of the title is downloaded in the background.

"This makes a digital library a practical option in the real world," Brown said.

Competitor Microsoft announced a similar feature in June, saying gamers can play any of their games from any Xbox One thanks to the digital copy being stored in the cloud.

"So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games," Microsoft said at the time.

Xbox One will support Xbox 360 headsets with an adapter 28th June 2013

Existing headsets will be able to operate with the Xbox One, confirms Microsoft, but it's currently unclear if the adapter will be sold separately.

Wired Xbox 360 headsets will be compatible with the Xbox One via an adapter, Microsoft has confirmed.

"We are working to develop an adapter for current wired headsets to connect," said Microsoft's Xbox Support account on Twitter. "More details as we approach launch."

Earlier this week Microsoft confirmed that theXbox One wouldn't ship with a headset in the box, with the company saying that the bundled Kinect hardware features its own microphone.

"Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor," said Microsoft, "with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences."

Microsoft's Xbox One comes with a proprietary headset jack, whereas Sony's PlayStation 4 will use a standard microphone jack. The Xbox 360 features a 2.5mm headphone jack, similar to many cell phones.

Microsoft has not said whether the Xbox 360 headset adapter will be included with the Xbox One console or whether it will be made available for sale separately.

Naughty Dog removing real-world phone-sex numbers from The Last of Us 28th June 2013

Naughty Dog has pledged to remove real-world phone-sex numbers spotted within the developer's latest game, The Last of Us.

Kotaku reader spotted a bulletin board from the game's virtual Pittsburgh that includes two phone numbers for "Pest Control." However, these numbers are not Easter eggs, but rather real-world phone-sex hotlines.

"That was an artist's mistake," creative director Neil Druckmann said. "What happened was, they put some phone numbers in the game and then they thought they could just change the area code to 555, then it's invalid because it's what they do in movies. But I guess that doesn't work when you have a 1-800 in front of it."

"We're now working to take it out," he added. "It was just an honest mistake."

The Last of Us was praised upon release earlier this month exclusively on the PlayStation 3, but the game has not been without its share of controversy.

Inception and Juno star Ellen Page accused Naughty Dog of "ripping off" her likeness for the game's Ellie character. In addition, an artist lashed out at the developer for reportedly using his redesigned MBTA map in The Last of Us without compensating him.

Blizzard bans more Diablo III players 28th June 2013

Blizzard Entertainment has banned more Diablo III players. In a blog post today, the company confirmed the bans, but did not say how many players were booted in all or if the bans were temporary or permanent.

"Over the last year, we've issued frequent rounds of account bans for cheating in Diablo III, and we've just issued another," the company said. "While we may not mention each round of account bans when they occur, we have and will continue to monitor Diablo III for exploitative behavior and take action as needed in order to help preserve the integrity of the game."

Blizzard banned "several thousand" Diablo III players in December for using botting hacks.

The company reminded players that hacks, bots, and third-party software are all prohibited for Diablo III. Blizzard said this software "undermines the spirit of the game" and can result in a permanent ban.

"Not only that, but third-party programs can cause nasty technical problems, game-related bugs, and stability and performance issues with Battle.net, all of which can greatly impact your gaming experience as well as the gaming experience of others," Blizzard said.

Players with information pertaining to a hack or a bot can reach Blizzard at Hacks@Blizzard.com. Diablo III launched for the PC and Mac last May and hassold over 12 million copies to date.

Thief coming to PS3 and Xbox 360, too 21st June 2013

Thief is coming to current-gen systems as well as PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Eidos Montreal confirmed the stealth burglary reboot will hit PS3 and Xbox 360 concurrently with its other versions.

Thief senior producer Stephane Roy said all versions of the game will play the same in a video to community members. The current-gen versions are being developed in-house along with their next-gen cousins, so players should expect visual quality to be the main difference.

Eidos Montreal made no mention of a Wii U version of the game. There's still time for that to change before its release sometime in 2014, of course.

The War Z renamed Infestation: Survivor Stories 21st June 2013

Controversial zombie game The War Z has changed its name to Infestation: Survival Stories.

In a release, OP Productions said the name change was due in part to helping fans differentiate the game from "similarly titled brands."

It is possible this is referencing Day Z, another zombie survival game from Dean Hall and Bohemia Interactive.

"OP Productions initially filed The War Z trademark early last year, but soon found out from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the name was comparable to another property," the company said in a statement.

"After months of trying to resolve the issue, OP Productions decided the best option to avoid confusion among players was to rename the game," the statement went on. "Current players will not experience any change or interruption with the exception of the change in name and game logo."

The game launched on Steam in December and was pulled just a day after release, after users reported numerous issues. Valve called its decision to originally publish the game a "mistake." The game was reinstated on Steam in late February.

Its forums and databases were hacked in April, though no payment information was compromised.

Football Manager 2014 will officially support the Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) version of Linux.
